Fish Fillet Teppan-Yaki

Review: Fish Fillet Teppan-Yaki @ Level 2 Causeway Point
Ordered fish fillet meal and thoroughly enjoyed it. Tasted the lamb and salmon meal and none was a disappointment. In fact, gien the price and the ‘fun’ of having your meal cooked in front of you and served fresh is an experience. The vegetables are generous an the meal comes with a bowl of soup and bowl of white rice. The taste is great and you can have it spicy or non. Wonderful for couple, group or family dining.

Encik Tan Signature Noodle

Review: Encik Tan Signature Noodle @ Northpoint
Tried the Encik Tan Signature Noodle and found it to be surprisingly tasty. Right-size noodle portion served with a bowl of soup that has fish balls and more in it. All that for just $5. Its an enjoyable no fuss meal in a clean air-conditioned environment.

Hjh Mariam Cafe

Review: Hjh Mariam Cafe @ 743 North Bridge Road
This was the first visit to their new (second) outlet at North Bridge Road. Because this is a shophouse premise, the cafe has more freedom to decorate and create concepts (as opposed to the outlet at Westgate), though I do miss the TV playing black and white movies. Order was made for Giant Nasi Ambeng  ($50 or $66 for the ‘upgraded version’) that can easily satisfy 5 pax. You got generous portion of chicken, meat and many around the sides. Having tried numerous Nasi Ambeng, I have to say that the one served by Hjh Mariam Cafe is still the best, unbeatable. The quality is consistent and price remain reasonable.

Grill NinetyNine

Review: Grill NinetyNine @ 142 Arab Street
There were 4 of us. We found this place through an online search for western food around Sultan Mosque. We tried 3 main dish, 1 soup and a cake. For a start the Cream of Mushroom ($6) with bread was really tasty, creamy and thick. Probably one of the best mushroom soups ever tasted. We ordered Lamb Rack ($29.90). Great filling, tender and absolutely delicious. We also ordered Salmon ($20) and it was truly satisfying. The last order was Grilled Beef Burger ($15) and it was lovely as it was mouthwatering to look at with all the melting Raclette cheese (add $8.90 for that). Food was served with great presentation like how it would have been prepared for a photoshoot. Rainbow cake ($7.50) will appeal to those who must have something sweet to end a good meal.

Walaku

Review: Walaku @ 102 Joo Chiat Road Road
There were 3 of us. I ordered Kentang Ball $8.50, wife tried their Nasi Goreng Kerabu with Ayam Percik $14 and son enjoyed their Moza Leleh Burger $16. All 3 taste great so you wouldnt mind the price. The presentation will whet your appetite and the portion will leave you filling full. The food is definitely fine-chef material therefore the preparation time is worth the wait. We tried the Thai Milk Tea Cold $4 and it tastes authentically Thai indeed. We ended the visit with Strawberry Cheese Cake (gelato) at $3.80. This was my 2nd visit there and it looks like I will be coming back for more.

The White Label

Managed to check out the new halal French cafe at Arab Street. For starters, I had the fried chicken wings which was marinated in sweet & spicy chilli sauce. Would rate it a 3/5 – was good but nothing significant. For main, I ordered the spicy prawn linguine which had 3 different spice levels. I chose the level 2 which was good enough for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was tiptop – was often checked upon to ensure everything I ordered was out and was to my liking. Definitely worth a try! Overall experience 4 out of 5. One downfall is you might walk past the place without noticing as it is located along the streets with a lot of other shops/cafes! Make sure to keep a look out or get your GPS out.

Masala Thosai @ Al Azhar

Review: Masala Thosai @ 11 Cheong Chin Nam Road (Bukit Timah, opposite Beauty World)
Ordered masala thosai with ice lemon tea. The spices for the thosai are nice but the thosai itself is a disappointment. Not crispy at all. Too soft like soggy and the content is little. Perhaps because it is $3? I wouldnt come back for the thosai.

Andes by Aston

Review: Porterhouse (Andes by Aston) @ 6 Woodlands Square.
This outlet is a new Andes by Aston outlet. It is located at Woodlands Square just beside the Woodlands Civic Centre. We ordered 1 Porterhouse, 1 Black Pepper Steak and 1 Grilled Fish. Not the best that I have tasted for the food ordered but definitely ranked among the top. The portion and the tenderness is as expected with a near perfect score for taste. Ambiance is good and outlet is in a good location.Price is on the mid to semi-high scale with the porterhouse costing $29.90, the tenderloin at 28.90 and the grilled fish at 16.90.  Then again if the taste is good and experience is great, the price is not a key factor but here is where the problem starts – their service. So a 3 pax dining can take your in the $80 + range.

Buffet Town

Review: Buffet Town @ Raffles City, #B1-44E, 252 North Bridge Road
Come only if you are really hungry otherwise it will be such a waste unless money is not an issue. Dinner is more than $48.80++ (more than $60 per adult !) so you really want to make it value for money. Spread variety is so extensive from international sea food, asian cuisines, mixed grill, tepanyaki etc etc. However drinks are limited to hot drinks and for cold drinks only cold water and green tea. The taste are generally good and serving is good for single to max 2. Just use the tablet to order as much and often as you want. If you can spend and you can eat, this is place is heaven for family and group.
